Abstract:

Religion is a major institution impacting microfinance. Very little work has been done on Hinduism and microfinance. This work has become imperative in the wake of the triple explosion of microfinance in India: explosion in the sense of growth rates, explosion in the sense of legislative interest, explosion in the sense of indebtedness and suicides. The questions are what are the local customs and what place does religion and history accord to debt and interest rates. This paper shares the limited information available with the author on Hinduism and provides an offbeat Hindu perspective to the case of SKDRDP.
